Giuseppe Bonifazi


Professor Bonifazi is delegate of the dean of the faculty of engineering in the new campus established by the University of Rome, La Sapienza. He is a member of the board of directors of the new university campus, as well as the president of the Area Council of Environmental Engineering in Latina for the coordination of teaching activities. He is the author/coauthor of more than 150 papers presented at international conferences and published in international journals. He trains professionals in the United States and the UK in the field of imaging techniques applied to particle and particulate solids characterization, with particular reference to raw materials (natural and synthetic) and solid waste recyclable related products.

Dr. Ashok Ghose Dastidar


Dr. Ashok Ghose Dastidar is vice president, dust & flammability testing and consulting services, Fauske & Associates Inc., Burr Ridge, IL. Dr. Dastidar specializes in chemical process hazards analysis, flammable dusts, liquids & vapors explosion and combustion hazards analysis and testing and electrostatic hazards analysis. He has extensive technical experience performing tests and analyzing data to determine electrostatic hazards, dust explosibility hazards, flammability hazards, thermal stability and reactivity hazards, and hazard analysis and risk mitigation. Dr. Dastidar has published 12 articles and presented at more than 23 conferences. He has a Ph.D., Chemical Engineering, Dalhousie University, an M.A.Sc., Chemical Engineering, Technical University of Nova Scotia, M.B.A, Management Science, Saint Mary's University, and a B.S., Honors in Chemistry, Dalhousie University.

Vahid Ebadat, PhD


Dr. Ebadat has worked extensively as a process and operational hazards consultant for the chemical, pharmaceutical, food, and petrochemical industries. He is a regular speaker at training courses in controlling electrostatic hazards and dust explosions and is a member of NFPA 77, NFPA 654, and ASTM E27. His research has culminated in the publication of industrial guidelines on electrostatic hazards associated with pneumatic transfer and storage of powders and numerous papers and articles. His fields of expertise include: static electricity hazards; dust explosions; gas and vapor explosions; fire/explosions properties of solids, liquids, gases, and mists; chemical handling safety; classification of hazardous areas; and transportation of dangerous goods. Ebadat holds a BS in electrical engineering and a PhD in philosophy, both from Southampton University, UK.

M. G. Jones, PhD


Professor Jones is the head, School of Engineering, University of Newcastle; director, TUNRA Bulk Solids Handling Research Associates (TBS); director, Centre for Bulk Solids and Particulate Technologies (CBSPT), University of Newcastle. He is an expert in the fields of pneumatic conveying, material characterization, fluidization and de-aeration (particularly in relation to prediction of pneumatic conveying performance), gravity flow of solids, and mixing and de-mixing of solids. He is a board member of CRC for Integrated Engineering Asset Management and a fellow with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and Chartered Engineer, UK, and the Institution of Engineers, Australia, and a Chartered Professional Engineer. Jones has authored books, 34 journals, 72 conference publications, and 60 technical reports. He has a BS in mechanical engineering (CNAA) and a PhD (CNAA) from Thames Polytechnic, London.

Eric P. Maynard, MSME


Maynard is an expert on bulk solids handling and processing, including storage, pneumatic and mechanical conveying, blending, and segregation. He is knowledgeable in specialized technologies of crushing, agglomeration, separations, fluidization, dust explosions, electrostatics, and drying. He is a skilled project manager with 13 years of experience in assisting clients in implementing new material-handling systems or retrofitting existing equipment to yield reliable, safe, cost-effective, and efficient operations. Maynard has lectured at dozens of conferences, professional society meetings, and more than 50 private-sector functions. He has authored more than a dozen technical papers that have been published in well-recognized industry periodicals or presented at technical conferences. He holds an MS in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a BS in mechanical engineering from Villanova University.

Don McGlinchey, PhD

Reader | Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland


Dr. McGlinchey is a Reader within the School of Engineering and Computing at Glasgow Caledonian University, where he is active in education, research, and consultancy in bulk solids handling. His research interests are in the areas of characterization of bulk solids, gas-solids flow, and multiphase flow modeling. He has carried out major research projects with international collaboration and regularly lectures in Europe and the United States. His work has been presented at international conferences and published in scientific journals. He has acted as a consultant within the food, chemical, pharmaceutical, and power-generation industries. He is a member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, UK; the Institute of Physics, UK; and the Institute of Mechanical Engineers Bulk Materials Handling Committee. McGlinchey holds a PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Teesside, Middlesbrough, UK.

David Mills, PhD


An independent consultant on pneumatic conveying, Dr. Mills lectures at Glasgow Caledonian University and acts as a referee on PhD programs for universities around the world. He maintains an association with The Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, where he has lectured since 1980 and has helped to set up extensive pneumatic conveying laboratory facilities. Dr. Mills is currently a visiting professor at the University of Newcastle in Australia and is a worldwide consultant. He also acts as an expert witness in litigation cases. He has been a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in the UK since 1968 and has written more than 200 articles for technical journals and conferences. He has been associated with the Powder and Bulk Solids conferences since the first one in 1976. Dr. Mills has a PhD in pneumatic conveying from Thames Polytechnic, London.

Dilip M. Parikh


Dilip M. Parikh is president of DPharma Group Inc., a pharmaceutical technology development and consulting group, Ellicott City, MD. He is an industrial pharmacist and has more than 35 years of industrial experience at major pharmaceutical companies in Canada and the United States in research and development, CGMP-compliant facility planning, construction, manufacturing, and operational management. He is the editor of Handbook of Pharmaceutical Granulation Technology 2nd edition, has authored numerous scientific publications, and has spoken at worldwide scientific conferences on solid dosage technology development and manufacturing. Parikh is a member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) and the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE). He is also a consultant to Anhydro Pharmaceutical Div., Elkridge, MD.

John R. Pugh, PhD


A professor in the School of Engineering and Computing, Professor Pugh has pursued an interest in instrumentation and measurement for over 30 years, with more than 15 years in the area of instrumentation for bulk solids handling. His current research work is on the development of solids' two-phase mass flow measurement. Pugh is vice president (Learned Society matters) of the Institute of Measurement and Control in the UK, and chair of the Institute's Learned Society Board and Measurement Science and Technology Panel. He is a chartered engineer and fellow of the Institute of Measurement and Control, a chartered physicist and fellow of the Institute of Physics, and a fellow of the Institution of Engineers and Shipbuilders in Scotland. Pugh has written more than 80 papers and published conference proceedings. He holds a BS in natural philosophy and a PhD in gravitational radiation, both from Glasgow University.

Virendra M. Puri, PhDD


Professor Puri's current work includes teaching, researching, and service within and outside of Penn State University. Teaching includes both undergraduate and graduate courses with a focus on engineering properties and computational modeling. His research focus is on particle and particle systems, computational modeling, and constitutive models. Professor Puri has served on numerous committees during the past 25 years at Penn State and has directly advised 44 graduate students. He is a fellow for the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, and a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, a Particle Technology Forum of AIChE, and the American Society for Engineering Education. Professor Puri has a BS in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, India, and an MS and PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Delaware.

Remi Trottier, PhD


Trottier has more than 20 years of experience in particle characterization technology, aerosol science, and air filtration, in both academia and industry. He is the subject matter expert for the implementation of new particulate technologies for lab and in-process measurement. Before joining The Dow Chemical Co., Trottier was a senior scientist at Alcoa Inc. He has been an instructor of the course on particle characterization at the International Powder & Bulk Solids Conference/Exhibition for the last 15 years and has authored approximately 20 publications, mostly in particle characterization and filtration, including the article on particle characterization in the Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology. Trottier has a PhD in chemical engineering from Loughborough University, UK, and MS and BS degrees in physics from Laurentian University, Sudbury, ON, Canada.

Rick Wynn


Wynn has been the vice president of Wynn Environmental Sales for almost 20 years. He is responsible for engineering and sales of dust collection systems, mist collection systems, and aftermarket filter sales. He has extensive experience with high-performance baghouse and engineered dust collection systems. Difficult applications such as high-temperature, high-vacuum, aggressive chemicals, and other tricky systems are his specialty. Prior to working for Wynn Environmental, he was involved in filter bag sales at BWF America, Florence, KY, and as a baghouse and dust suppression estimator for Johnson March Systems. Wynn has a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and holds a U.S. patent for a wet dust collection system.
